            What is a user agent?

A user agent is a line of text your browser sends with every request. It tells websites which browser, version and operating system you use so they can serve compatible pages. Modern browsers also offer Client Hints, a more private, structured way to share the same information.

            Frequently asked questions

            What is my user agent?

Your full user-agent string is shown at the top of this page. Use the copy button to share it with support teams or developers.

Can I change my user agent?

Yes. Most browsers let you override it in developer tools, and extensions can switch it automatically. Websites will then see the new value.

Why does my user agent say Mozilla?

Almost every browser begins with 'Mozilla/5.0' for historical compatibility reasons. It doesn't mean you're using Firefox.

            What are User-Agent Client Hints?

Client Hints are a newer browser API that shares brand, platform and version as structured data, reducing passive fingerprinting.
