ⓘBrowsers can't send ICMP packets, so this test measures HTTP round-trip time. After a warm-up request it is close to, but slightly higher than, a terminal ping.

What is a good ping?

Under 30 ms is excellent for gaming and video calls. 30–100 ms is fine for most uses. Over 150 ms feels laggy in real-time apps. Jitter is how much your ping changes between samples; under 10 ms is good.

Frequently asked questions

What does ping measure?

Ping is the time a small message takes to travel to a server and back, measured in milliseconds (ms). Lower is better.

What is jitter?

Jitter is the variation between ping samples. High jitter causes stuttering in calls and online games even when the average ping is low.

Why is the first ping higher?

The first request includes DNS lookup and connection setup. This test sends a warm-up request first and ignores it.

How can I lower my ping?

Use a wired connection, close bandwidth-heavy apps, choose a server closer to you, and restart your router if latency is unusually high.
